and enough poison evaporated during cooking that Rasputin was able to survive. I don't know if the poison was cyanide or not, but don't try that at home! It is known that Yusupov (knowing you, you probably already know of his homosexuality) and his friends did subsequently shoot, stab, bludgeon, and then castrate old Grigori Efimovich, but he was still active enough to struggle and even chase his assasins around. Before they threw him in the river they wrapped him up in a carpet and tied it up, he was trying to get out of it when he froze to death. The only explanation for this is that Rasputin was one tough POS, and his killers were not - combine that with generous amounts of luck and improbability. Or maybe his daughter (I read her bizzare but fascinating memoir once) exaggerated the extend of her dad's vital power.
