Placenta is only a blob of membrane rich in RBCs or what not. If  Hindi Indians  believe  in drinking smelly cow pee or a dub of cow dung to enhance nirvana and healing  effects, then its the same as this practice . Besides its just another of those weird beliefs which can neither do harm , only brings in that  placebo effect of accomplishing something.
