I believe the article made some good points about the current state of the Chinese automobile industry.
However, as with a fair number of observations by Western writers, they like to look too much at how things stand TODAY and underestimate the Chinese ability to progress in the future, near or longer-term.
You only have to go back a few years or more in the past to read articles with predictions about China which turned out to be spectacularly wrong in how they assessed the country's ability to improve.
For writers of an anti-Chinese bent it must be very frustrating indeed to see hardly any of their dark predictions come true.
