An Air China Airbus A319-100, registration B-6225 performing flight CA1431 from Beijing to Kunming (China), returned to Beijing after a passenger noticed a hole at the right wing root about 30 minutes into the flight. While the airplane returned, the hole widened further. The airplane landed safely at Beijing.

A replacement aircraft, a Boeing 737-800 with registration B-5170, then performed the flight with a delay of close to 4 hours.
